UPDATED: March 27, 2020
With the growing concern over Coronavirus, we want to reassure our customers that our products have been tested in a 3rd party lab and been found to be effective against Human Coronavirus. These lab reports can be seen here. See EPA approval document here.
Many of you have questioned why our laboratory testing is from July 2019. As part of our labeling update programs, we routinely re-test and update our labels with pathogens. In July 2019, one of the pathogens we tested for was Human Coronavirus, hence the testing date for that group of viruses.
Please remember the importance of using products correctly with respect to concentration and contact time. As the leaders in infection control for the professional beauty industry, we take all infectious risks seriously. The current concern throughout the U.S. regarding viral illness has made everyone more vigilant about their personal safety and the safety of others in the salon (employees/consumers) in the salon setting. That said, the advice we give every day is still the best advice out there and should be an everyday practice. Our advice to all of our customers would be as follows:
- Practice proper infection control. Cleaning & disinfection, as directed by the boards of every state. These rules require proper disinfection of every non-porous implement prior to use. In addition, consideration of disinfection of common use surfaces such as back bars, reception areas, computers and phones should be considered.
- Remember contact time. The most important step of the disinfection process is to allow the chemical time to work! Read all disinfectant labels to know the correct time frame. For BARBICIDE® concentrate, that contact time is 10 minutes and for BARBICIDE® Wipes the contact time is 2 minutes.
- Hand hygiene. Wash hands with soap and water for 30 seconds prior to every client, after eating, smoking or using the restroom. Where allowed by state law/rules, hand sanitizer is acceptable, except after eating, smoking or using the restroom.
- Keep your hands to yourself! Handshaking needs to be replaced with other methods of introduction. While handshaking is seen as a polite gesture, during cold and flu season it is a superhighway for viruses to move quickly in groups.
- Finally, keep your immune system healthy so it is prepared if you are exposed to anything! Get plenty of sleep, water, good nutrition and most of all, stop smoking!
Can’t find the certification trst
You can find the BARBICIDE® Certification here: https://barbicide.com/barbicide-certification/
My daughter mixed up a batch of witch hazel, barbicide, sorthum gum and essential oils and made a hand sanitizer. I used it and at first it’s like a lotion, then gets sticky, then dries smooth. Since I can’t get alcohol to mix with aloe, it’s the best we could do. This has not irritated my skin nor anyone elses that has used it in the family at all! I’m impressed by the outcome!
Hi Kathy, just a reminder that disinfection is only for non-porous surfaces, not porous things like our hands. We are not labeled for use on the human body and the mixing of chemicals can be dangerous.
When spraying the solution on a countertop, is it ok if some gets on your hands if you rinse them right away? After the 10 minutes of sit time, does the surface have to be rinsed so as not to contaminate food?
Gloves are a great option if you are worried about getting the solution on your hands. You can allow the surface to air dry.
I have not been able to get my usual barbicide wipes. I’ve got regular barbicide by the gallons. In a time like this hoe can I make my own babicide wipes? What is the proper mixture of isopropyl alcohol and barbicide? Regular diluted barbicide takes up to 10 minutes to be effective. Barbicide wipes only 2.
Yes you may! If you can find heavy duty paper towels, use the proper mixing ratio of 2 oz (1/4 cup) concentrate into 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water to soak your paper towels. Remember, the contact time will be 10 minutes because you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
Since there are no place that has Barbicide wipes at this time can you make them using the mix and paper towels in a sealed container. Thank you
Yes, if you have BARBICIDE® Concentrate and heavy duty paper towels you can make your own wipes. Use the proper mixing ratio of 2 oz (1/4 cup) concentrate into 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water to soak your paper towels. Remember, the contact time will be 10 minutes because you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
Hello, so since covid i took a part-time job at Super Cuts and we are now using the Barbicide wipes but not as directed on the label. They said use 1 wipe per station and it doesn’t have to stay wet for 2 minutes as eventhough dry it is still there. They stated that you only state your method of use to make consumers buy more. So I am wondering as I dont want to risk getting anyone sick can you please clarify this for me? We have hundreds of stores in western NY being told NOT to follow label directions.
Not adhering to the EPA-registered product label and contact time can put you at you at risk of not being effective against the pathogens of concern. Our wipes require a 2 minute contact time!
Can this be used for disinfectant for pedicure jet spa’s?
BARBICIDE Spacide Complete is great product for disinfection of jet spas! Please see more product info here: https://barbicide.com/product/barbicide-spacide-complete/
Thank you for sharing this formula. I would like to make my own wipes as well.
If I increase the amount of barbicide won’t this decrease the contact time because the solution is more concentrated?
Thanks for your question! No, increasing the amount of BARBICIDE will not make the solution more effective nor will it change the contact time.
How long does the barbicide spray have to sit for rollers and perm rods.
10 minutes!
On podcast they talked about a poster that was Available to post at your salon to let clients know that you were following sanitation and disinfecting procedures where do I find this poster
Thank you for your message! We are expecting to have the window clings very soon. If you are subscribed to our email list, you will receive an email when they are available.
How long is barbicide potency if I make homemade wipes??
Contact time will be 10 minutes if you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
Hi,
Just want to check, if I spray my equipment (combs & brushes) with a disinfectant spray and then leave in barbicide for the required about of time will be cover the clean and sterilise steps?
Hi Steph, soaking OR spraying your combs and brushes in BARBICIDE for the full 10 minute contact time is sufficient. You do not need to do both!
Hello I have a 17 yr old new sealed bottle of barbicide. I cannot see an expiration date. Is it any good?
Hi Flor, BARBICIDE does not expire.
I work in the medical field and just ran out of lysol spray. I spray my uniform and shoes down before getting in my car.
Will this product stain or ruin fabrics?
BARBICIDE® is for use to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces like glass, metal or plastic. We are not labeled for use on porous items like clothing or shoes – which cannot be disinfected, only cleaned.
Will Barbacide damage vinyl salon chairs?
Remember that porous materials cannot be disinfected and ongoing use of disinfectants on materials covering chairs, can damage the material. On initial opening, feel free to disinfect your chairs, but limit that to once daily – consider barrier methods on chairs such as disposable paper drapes or towels that can be laundered after each client
If you fail the test for the certification can it be taken over
Yes, you may!
Do Barbicide have an expiration date? I don’t see it on the bottle.
BARBICIDE® Concentrate does not expire!
Why is the contact time 10 minutes for the Barbicide concentrate and only 2 minutes for the wipes? There is a video stating that the ingredients are the same in both. If I were to properly mix the Barbicide concentrate and pour it over prefolded paper towels placed in a sealed container, can I use them the same way I would as using the wipes? Do I need to wait 2 minutes or 10 minutes? If 10 minutes, why?
The chemicals used and the process to make them is completely different, hence the difference in contact times. You will need to wait 10 minutes if you are using BARBICIDE Concentrate to make your own wipes.
hi ..where is the covid 19 certificate link please.
Please visit barbicide.com/certification to get started!
Can I make my own barbacide spray ?
Yes, 2oz of BARBICIDE Concentrate into 32oz of water into a spray bottle!
Okay so it kills corona virus does it kill covid -19 these are two different things
We have received documentation from the EPA that BARBICIDE® is approved for efficacy against Human Coronavirus.
I was told to use Barbicide for my toenail fungus, applying directly with a cotton wool and leaving it to stay for at least 10 minutes and I just read that it is not a good thing to do as toenails are porous. Please help.
Thanks
Hi Reme, we are not labeled for use on the human body. BARBICIDE is for use to disinfect hard, non-porous items and surfaces.
Can barbicide liquid be used in your laundry
No, BARBICIDE is only labeled for use on hard, non-porous items and surfaces.
Since we are having such a bad time finding barbicide or Clorox wipes. Can you recommend a ratio of water to barbicide to use as a spray disinfectant?
Yes! 2oz (1/4cup) of Barbicide in 32oz (4 cups) of water makes a spray. The contact time is still 10 minutes and the spray bottle does not need to be made fresh every day since it is a closed container that you are not sticking things into.
What if the solution ecvaporates before 10 mins?
To keep it wet for the 10 minutes requires thorough saturation of the surface. If it evaporates prior to the 10 minutes, add more until the surface has been visibly wet for 10 minutes.
can I use barbicide on granite
BARBICIDE® can be used on all hard, non-porous surfaces like metal, glass or plastic.
Disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces such as those made of metal, glass or plastic is done by cleaning the surface first and then either spraying, wiping or immersing in a properly concentrated disinfectant for the proper contact time on the label.
Please explain the 10 min rule. Do I have to let the product sit on a countertop, table or other hard surface for 10 minutes before I wipe it up? Or, can I spray it on a counter, and wipe it using a damp sponge or towel?
Yes, BARBICIDE® Concentrate requires a 10 minute contact time. After 10 minutes, you may wipe the solution.
Can I use any type of plastic spray bottle to make up solution for spray disinfectant? Thanks in advance from London, England.
Yes, any type of plastic bottle will work for BARBICIDE Spray! ¼ cup of concentrate should be mixed in 4 cups of water and remember to observe 10 minute contact time to be effective against all pathogens on the label.
What happens if I mixed the barbicide solution in a metal spray bottle? It’s the only spray bottle I have. Is the solution no longer stable? Do I have to throw the batch out?
That spray bottle will work!
Online I see Barbicide and Barbicide Concentrate. If I want to make a spray solution can I use either one?
BARBICIDE® and BARBICIDE® Concentrate are the same thing. You may use BARBICIDE® Concentrate to make a spray! 2 oz of concentrate into 32 ounces of cold water. Contact time is 10 minutes.
If I mix it in a spray bottle for spraying on my salon chairs, door handles, shampoo bowl etc. how long does the barbicide stay good , actively potent in my spray bottle ?
BARBICIDE in a sprayer, is good until gone! There is no expiration date for BARBICIDE and because it is in a closed container where nothing is being immersed (reducing risk of contamination), it does not need to be changed, but can be used until gone.
Can this be sprayed on scissors combs etc between clients instead of making it up every day and having to soak for 10mins?
Yes, but the contact time is still 10 minutes!
what about the barbicide pre measured pods??? Can i use that to make a disinfectant solution?
Hi Penny, we do not manufacture pre measured pods. Are you referring to our 2 oz concentrate bullets? If so, then yes you may use that to make your disinfectant solution!
Is there a recipe for making hand sanitizer with barbicide?
No, there is no recipe for making hand sanitizer with BARBICIDE®. We are not labeled for use on the human body.
Can you use it in a fog Machine for disinfecting a salon
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous surfaces.
What is the ratio for making wipes?
To make wipes with BARBICIDE® concentrate, please follow proper mixing ratios. 2 oz (1/4 cup) concentrate to 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water. Contact time will be 10 minutes because you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
After mixing up a spray bottle of Barbicide : how long is that spray bottle good for?
It is good until it runs out since it is in a closed container and not being exposed to air.
How can I make Barbicide wipes??
I have paper towels and barbicide concentrate!
Use the proper mixing ratio of 2 oz (1/4 cup) concentrate into 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water to soak your paper towels. Remember, the contact time will be 10 minutes because you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
Why do the Barber side wipes disinfect eight minutes faster than the concentrate?
BARBICIDE® Wipes and BARBICIDE® Concentrate have a completely different chemical composition.
If we make our own wipes and put in a container, how long will they be effective to use?
Until they are gone. BARBICIDE does not expire!
Is there a less “contact time” for a less diluted spray?.
What are the mixing ratios for the different ways of disinfectaning? And that is the contact time for them?.
Please adhere to exactly what the label states. The mixing ratio for BARBICIDE® Spray is 2 oz of concentrate into 32 oz of water. Contact time is 10 minutes.
I understand that is typically traditionally recommended use on non-porous surfaces but can I spray it on a cardboard box, for example an Amazon delivery, wait the 10 minutes and wipe it off from that surface?
If barbicide concentrate is also
used to disinfect chairs and glass/ plastic bottles, if I spray on these surfaces, do I wipe them or spray on and wait ten minutes?
Contact time for BARBICIDE® Concentrate and BARBICIDE® Spray is 10 minutes.
What is the formula do you need when you put the barbicide in a spray bottle.
Do you add anything to it?
If so how longit take until it taken care of gems on objects?
Hi Dannette, the mixing ratio for BARBICIDE Spray is 2oz into 32 oz of water. You do not add anything to it and contact time is 10 minutes!
Hi is there an official statement for the UK if so where can I find it ? Thanks
Thanks for your question! Please see their website: http://www.hairproducts.co.uk/
Do you have to rinse your equipment after it has been soaked in the barbicide before you use it?. And can you mix double or half the mixing ratio when you want more or less of the barbicide mixture?.
No, rinsing is not necessary. You can allow your tools to air dry. Yes, you may double or cut the mixing ratio in half! Be sure to still follow the 10 minute contact time!
I found a gallon of Spacide. is this the same as barbiside. will it sanitze the same ?
Yes! Spacide works and is also effective against Human Coronavirus!
Can I make a hand sanitizer out of Barbacide..if so what is the ratio and ingredients
We are not aware of any “recipe” for hand sanitizer made with BARBICIDE® – Hand washing is the best option.
Barbicide is not on the list as I can see that the cdc put on list from AmericanChemistry.com for covid19
Why is that??
The first step was to get the Human Coronavirus approval from the EPA to include on our label. The EPA list is the next step in the process and as the EPA updates the list, we will be added.
I would like to prepare disinfecting solution to clean my entire home. Is there anything you would recommend not doing?
Only use BARBICIDE® on where it is intended such as hard, non-porous surfaces!
Can the spray solution be used on kitchen counters where food will be prepared? What about on cell phones, I’m concerned keeping it on for 10 minutes will hurt the phone
BARBICIDE® Spray can be used to disinfect any hard, non-porous surface.
New findings says that it stays on cardboard for 8 hours is this true?
Human coronavirus can live on cardboard up to 24 hrs.
Can I spray it on cloth couches to disinfect them? Or curtains?
Disinfection is only intended for hard, non-porous surfaces such as metal, glass or plastic.
Will barbicide work in my laundry? If so how much do I use?
BARBICIDE® is intended for hard non-porous surfaces.
Hi, can Barbicide be used to disinfect cardboard? I’m unsure if that is considered a hard surface, however I would like to disinfect my amazon delivery boxes.
Cardboard is a porous surface and cannot be disinfected!
Hi,
I own a spa in Kissimmee FL and have used your product for years! I am telling people about it. I was wondering do you have a window sticker I can purchase for my store front window?
Could you provide me with the information to obtain that?
Thank you for your question! We are in the process of ordering more BARBICIDE® Certified window stickers. We will update when they are available!
Hello! I would love to have window and mirror clings advertising I use Barbicide. Please let me know when you have these available.
Thank you, for posting about Barbicide against COVID-19. I searched your site for this a week before you posted it.
Hi Kelsey, we will notify everyone who is subscribed to our email list when the window clings are available! Thank you for reading!
I have Barbicide Disinfecting Wipes. Will that work against the Covid-19 Coronavirus? Any help would be appreciated.
I see you’ve posted the ratio of mixing to make your own barbicide wipes. However you said the contact time will still be 10 minutes . Is there any way to make some that have the 2 minute contact time?
No, if you are using BARBICIDE Concentrate you will need to adhere to the 10 minute contact time!
Can you spray barbicide in the air to disinfect as Lysol spray would?
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous items and surfaces like metal, glass and plastic.
What is the Barbicide to water ratio for sanitizing surfaces
BARBICIDE® concentrate is mixed correctly by adding 2 oz (1/4 cup) concentrate to 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water.
I work for a chiropractic office. We are currently using barbicide for our disinfectant. My question is, we leave contact time at 10 min at lunch and at the end of the day. We are a busy office so we don’t necessarily have time to wait 10 min in between patients. With no skin contact on the tables, is the product still effective if we are spraying and wiping between patients without waiting the full 10 min?
Not adhering to the full contact time puts you at risk of not being effective against the pathogens of concern. The fact that your practice is so busy makes it even more important that you do it properly.
When you spray in to a wood countertop and leave it for 10 minutes does it halm you wood countertop, also instead 2ounce of barbercide with 32ounce of water can I use 4 ounce every 32 ounce of water, does it help or not.
BARBICIDE can be used to disinfect hard, non-porous items and surfaces such as glass, metal and plastic. Wood is porous and therefore cannot be disinfected. Please adhere to the mixing ratio of 2oz of concentrate into 32oz of water listed on the label. Using more than 2oz will not make the disinfectant more effective.
Where are the third party results so we can read them.
https://barbicide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HUMAN-CORONAVIRUS-EFFICACY-REPORT-FOR-WEB.pdf
Is it dangerous to breath barbicide fumes
It is recommended that BARBICIDE® be used in a ventilated area.
Please link the published testing results
They have been published! Please see them here: https://barbicide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HUMAN-CORONAVIRUS-EFFICACY-REPORT-FOR-WEB.pdf
How should I mix barberSide for a spray, solution to water ratio.
The proper mixing ratio would be 2 oz (1/4 cup) of concentrate to 32 oz (4 cups) of cold water!
if diluted can it be used as a hand wash ?
We strongly advise against using BARBICIDE® on your hands. Please adhere to the label.
Please visit https://barbicide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HUMAN-CORONAVIRUS-EFFICACY-REPORT-FOR-WEB.pdf for Human Coronavirus efficacy lab results.
These lab reports are from 2019????
Yes. Lab testing takes a significant amount of time and as such, it is done routinely for pathogens of threat. If it was effective in July, it is still effective now.
This is a novel strain. It might not be affected, wouldn’t you agree?
A novel strain is one that is a new strain of a known virus. Because it is so new, it is impossible to know what will work, however, the best and most current information is to use a product that has been proven effective for Human Coronavirus. Eventually, this strain will be tested for, but that takes time!
While your test is successful against Human Coronavirus from 2019, many of us would like to know that it is equally effective for disinfecting Covid-19, being, a different virus than used for your test.
Would you please comment?
Thank you.
Currently, there are no disinfectants tested against the specific strain of Coronavirus causing COVID-19 (SARS-Cov-2), especially as the virus itself is not yet commercially available to laboratories to perform efficacy testing. The EPA is going through the process of reviewing the disinfectants that have claims against standard Human Coronavirus and regularly updating the list to include additional disinfectants.
As the test results show, which we submitted to the EPA last year and have made available on our website, BARBICIDE is proven to be effective against the Human Coronavirus. We are in constant contact with the EPA for updates on their review progress.
We can’t wait ten minutes between clients, Does clippercide work immediately like alcohol? and what about the last question, are there posters we can get if we are implementing new improved methods of sanitation?
Not adhering to the full contact time puts you at risk of not being effective against the pathogens of concern. Clippercide has a 10 minute contact time. BARBICIDE® Wipes are a great alternative, they require only a 2 minute contact time. The posters are not for “new improved methods”, they are to give your clients confidence that you have continued with your high standards of infection control before and after the pandemic.
Does the concentrate lose efficacy if I haven’t used it for a while? I found I had a bottle in concentrate in the back of my cupboard that had not been used for over a year and wondered if I use this one will it still be good?
BARBICIDE® does not expire!
:-) THANK YOU!
Does barbicide kill tuberculosis and polio?
Please see more information on our tuberculocidal disinfectant, BARBICIDE TB: https://barbicide.com/product/barbicide-tb/
Can you use this in the laundry to disinfect clothes?
Disinfection is only for non-porous surfaces such as metal, plastic and glass. That said, the dryer does an awesome job making cloth items safe!
Hi, is Barbicide safe to use on fabric? Not for coronavirus but for general germs? Or will it hurt fabric?
Hi AJ, remember that porous materials like fabric cannot be disinfected, only cleaned. Consider barrier methods on chairs such as disposable paper drapes or towels that can be laundered after each client.
Can your wipes be used in place of Lysol wipes for cleaning surfaces? I am looking for a product for my home use. Thank you.
You can use BARBICIDE® Wipes on any hard, non-porous surface. Please adhere to the label and contact time of 2 minutes.
How can you use concentrated Barbicide to act like the wipes with contact time two minutes
That is not possible. BARBICIDE® Concentrate and BARBICIDE® Wipes have a different chemical makeup. Your contact time will be 10 minutes if you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate to make wipes.
Thanks so much stay safe
Is barbicide safe to use at home?
BARBICIDE® can be used on any hard, non-porous surface. Please adhere to the label and contact times.
Can barbacide be used to disinfect N95 masks? I am aware these are single use, but we have few options as they are in short supply. My main concern is residual inhalation
We are not labeled for any use except hard, non-porous surfaces. When used on those surfaces, with adequate ventilation, there should be no respiratory issues.
Hi! Do you know if this is ok to use on:
•a porcelain sink?
•a ”composite granite” sink?
• concrete countertops sealed with BioShield?
• wood tabletop?
• car steering wheel?
Thank you!
BARBICIDE® can be used on any hard, non-porous surface. Please adhere to the label and contact times.
Your team is doing an amazing job answering questions. Keep up the outstanding work.
That is all ?
Thank you Chandra!
hi can a mixture of barbicide and water mix to make a spray be useful to spray on cash notes in a barbers
Yes! 2oz (1/4cup) of BARBICIDE® in 32oz (4 cups) of water makes a spray. The contact time is still 10 minutes and the spray bottle does not need to be made fresh every day since it is a closed container that you are not sticking things into.
After the 10 minutes are up do you wipe any remaining liquid up( if you have sprayed it on) or do you let it air dry completely?
Either works! If you wipe up, use a clean towel or paper towel.
Can I make my own wipes by pouring Barbicide into a tub of baby wipes? If so, do I dilute it first?
Also, does the two minute time mean after wiping chairs and station down that a client should not sit for that long before disinfection is complete?
If you are trying to make wipes, I would not start with an already saturated product like a baby wipe. The liquid base in the wipes will further dilute the BARBICIDE® concentrate and may also inactive some of the active ingredients. An option might be to make them with heavy-duty paper towels. The contact time will be 10 minutes.
Our manufactured wipes have a contact time of 2 minutes that starts when the surface is wiped down.
I’ve done that with paper towels with the remaining liquid in the wipes container. Worked great ! But how can I make wipes with a 2 min. Contact time If I can’t find the real thing ??? Thanks in advance ?
To make wipes with a 2 minute contact time, you would have to find a disinfectant solution with a 2 minute contact time. Our disinfectants all have a 10 minute contact time (except wipes).
do you mean with the remaining liquid from the wipes left in the container and adding barbacide?
CDC advises that disinfectants that are products with EPA-approved emerging viral pathogens claims are expected to be effective against COVID-19 based on data for harder to kill viruses (not ONLY with a Human Coronavirus claim). https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2 . Why is the EPA registration number for Barbicide concentrate (954-11) not listed here?
BArbicide is now listed as of April2, 2020 on List N
I have been using barbaside on chairs and counters between each client or could you do it three times a day
Proper infection control means disinfecting between every client!
I’d like to understand “contact time” better. If you wipe a surface with a wipe and leave the residue to dry for two minutes, is that sufficient, or do you literally have to perform wiping action on a particular surface for two minutes straight? Same question if we make a spray: Once the area is saturated, the liquid needs to sit there for 10 minutes, and that is sufficient?
Good question! You do not need to keep moving the wipe or product around for the full contact time, you simply need to leave the surface wet for the contact time listed! In the case of wipes, depending on the size of the surface, this could take more than 1 wipe.
You guys are doing a great job and thank you. Any retail stores in Oakland CA that sell the wipes. I have the concentrate (I bought it for my wife who’s an ER doc). She’s mixing per your guidance in order to wipe down her work area because they are running low. Can we buy the wipes online? If so where?
Hi Noel,
We are temporarily out of stock online. Please check back soon for an update!
hi could you send me a window sticker and relevant info for barbicide I am a salon owner and I have used your product for many years
We will send out an update when window stickers are available!
Is Barbicide safe to use as a one time disinfectant in the house setting such as: on door nobs, countertops, cabinet handles, sinks, indoor handles and faucets? Again, as a one time disinfectant to try and sanitize a home that may have been contaminated?
Yes, BARBICIDE is made for disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces such as those made of metal, glass or plastic. Please adhere to proper contact time on the label for BARBICIDE to be effective.
Thank you Barbicide Team! After reading all these comments I applauded your patience! Your instructions on the label are very clear.
Of course! Thank you!
Will this damage quartz counters?
If I use the wipes on a counter or glass, metal, cardboard container, how long before the item s disinfected against a coronavirus?
Also, I just submitted an order – and now I see you’re out of stock. I don’t need them anytime soon, but when do you anticipate shipping?
Thanks!
Contact time for BARBICIDE® is 10 minutes and it should only be used on hard, non porous surfaces!
Can this be used on yoga mats or strength bands ?
Disinfection is only intended for hard, non-porous surfaces. That said, it is likely your strength bands can be disinfected and the yoga mat would depend on the material.
Maybe I misread the labels, but I thought only TB kills the ccoronavirus. Does regular barbicide and the wipes kill coronavirus as well?
Can I use barbicide to disinfect surfaces in my home?
Yes, BARBICIDE is made for disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces such as those made of metal and plastic. Please adhere to proper contact time on the label for BARBICIDE to be effective.
Can the concentrate be used at a higher strength to reduce contact time down from 10 minutes?
No, please adhere to the proper mixing ratios on the label. A great option to reduce contact time is BARBICIDE® Wipes. They only have a 2 minute contact time.
I had a full package of wipes that had totally dried out. I soaked them in a dishpan full of the properly diluted Barbicide and put back into original package. Do you think these wipes can be effective?
Yes, but the contact time will be 10 minutes since the base chemical is BARBICIDE® Concentrate.
Will properly diluted Barbicide be effectice on packages that are delivered in cardboard boxes?
If I spray and leave on counters 10 minutes, do I have to wash them with soap and water before putting food on them?
No, you can allow your counters to air dry.
The Human Coronavirus you mention – does that include the COVID19 virus that is ravaging the world right now?
Currently, there are no disinfectants tested against the specific strain of Coronavirus causing COVID-19 (SARS-Cov-2), especially as the virus itself is not yet commercially available to laboratories to perform efficacy testing. The EPA is going through the process of reviewing the disinfectants that have claims against standard Human Coronavirus and regularly updating the list to include additional disinfectants.
As the test results show, which we submitted to the EPA last year and have made available on our website, BARBICIDE® is proven to be effective against the Human Coronavirus. We are in constant contact with the EPA for updates on their review progress.
WOW…I have learned so much on your site…Bless you for informing us with your AMAZING knowledge..StayWell…
Hi Deb, thank you for reading! Stay healthy!
After spraying the Barbicide solution made per your recommendation and waiting the full 10 minutes for the surface to be disinfected, does the surface need to be wiped/rinsed after drying? We are planning to spray down surfaces at the end of the day before everyone goes home and want to make sure those same surfaces that people touch in the morning shouldn’t be wiped off ahead of time.
You have the option to let it air dry or wipe it!
Hi can you please assist. I have bought barbacide ready mix spray bottles. I would like to know how to use this product in spray form on door handles, light switches etc. How long must the spray be left on for full benefit or if it can be sprayed on and wiped off immediately?
Many thanks
BARBICIDE® Spray has a contact time of 10 minutes. In order for it to be effective, the surface must remain wet for the entire 10 minutes, after the contact time is up, you may wipe.
Hi can you please assist. I have bought barbacide ready mix spray bottles. I would like to know how to use this product in spray form on door handles, light switches etc. How long must the spray be left on for full benefit or if it can be sprayed on and wiped off immediately?
BARBICIDE® Spray has a contact time of 10 minutes. In order for it to be effective, the surface must remain wet for the entire 10 minutes, after the contact time is up, you may wipe.
I’m a police officer looking for something to disinfect my equipment, particularly my ballistic vest.
Would BARBICIDE in a spray bottle be effective in sanitizing a ballistic vest? It is fabric, possibly nylon.
It is an external plate carrier similar to what you would see a SWAT operator or military personnel wear.
Disinfection is intended for non-porous surfaces, but that said, properly concentrated BARBICIDE® sprayed onto your equipment and allowed to dry would be beneficial and not damage the materials. Thank you for the work you do!
What if Barbicide is mixed with aloe vera gel for a hand sanitizer? If this could work, what ratio would you reccomend? Thank you so much!
BARBICIDE® is to only be mixed with water. Please adhere to the label!
if i used the recommended dilution/mix and spray it on a door knob, will this be effective? or does it need to be “wet” /submerged ?
also, is this more effective if i scrub/agitate the surface with a saturated (in barbicide) ?
do i need to dilute this? is this more effect in concentration? as in, if i use it straight from the bottle (manufacturer) to the surface, does it still take 10 minutes to kill covid/corona virus?
thanks for your efforts. i appreciate it.
BARBICIDE® Spray has a contact time of 10 minutes and can be used on any hard, non-porous surface. Clean the surface first, with a cleaner such as Ship Shape, or soap and water. Then disinfect with BARBICIDE® Spray. The surface needs to stay wet for the full 10 minutes for it to be effective. The mixing ratio for BARBICIDE® Spray is 2 oz of concentrate into 32 oz of water. We have received documentation from the EPA that BARBICIDE® is approved for efficacy against Human Coronavirus.
Hello, I see the contact time for the wipes is shorter than the solution. Is there a way to increase the ratio of the concentrate to water to make the solution as strong as the wipes?
It is a totally different chemical composition – there is no way to make BARBICIDE® concentrate the same contact time as BARBICIDE® wipes.
Thanks for the reply to my and ALL the questions that are submitted here. Stay safe and healthy!
You are welcome! Stay safe!
Thank you for your patience with all our questions. I ordered Barbicide to disinfect my home (hard surfaces) after one of our family members has recovered from COVID-19. I know it is safe for plastics but does that include solid surface material like Corian? Thank you for your reply.
BARBICIDE® is intended for use on hard, non-porous surfaces.
Covid-19 is not a living organism, but a protein molecule (RNA) covered by a protective layer of lipid (fat). Will Barbicide cut thru the fat to kill it?
We have received documentation from the EPA that BARBICIDE® is approved for efficacy against Human Coronavirus.
can you send me a copy of the report so I can have it at my office so we can use barbicide on the tables and hard sufaces
Please see the document here: https://barbicide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/EPA-Testing-Approval.pdf
We have received documentation from the EPA that BARBICIDE® is approved for efficacy against Human Coronavirus.
Can I use Barbicide concentrate or wipes to clean groceries? For example, frozen plastic bags, thin saran/plastic wrap on meats, cardboard boxes etc.?
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous surfaces like metal, plastic or glass!
Does your site have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to shoot you an e-mail. I’ve got some creative ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great website and I look forward to seeing it expand over time.
Yes, under the “Contact us” tab! https://barbicide.com/contact-us/
I want to understand to properly clean in the future:
1) Clean (sanitize) with ship shape
2) Disinfect with Barbicide- spray or wipes need a total of ten minutes to properly disinfect? or the wipes only need 2 minutes?
Thank you for the certification and helping our clients and ourselves healthy and safe
Hi Andrea!
1) Correct
2) BARBICIDE® Concentrate and Spray have a 10 minute contact time. BARBICIDE® Wipes have a 2 minute contact time.
Congrats on becoming BARBICIDE® Certified!
Thank You for this great product!
I been using Barbicide for many years in my Beauty Salon and my home. Thanks for this Great Product! ….
A Great Product !
Anne, thank you for choosing BARBICIDE®!
It was helpful. Keep on posting!
Thank you for reading!
Hi,
Can this be used to disinfect car steering wheels, door handles? Does it need to be wet for 10 mins?
Any hard, non-porous surface! If you are using BARBICIDE® Concentrate, contact time is 10 minutes. BARBICIDE® Wipes contact time is 2 minutes.
I work in a salon. Your label on the wipes recommends using 2 wipes per area. One to clean and the second to disinfect. It also says 3 minutes for proper disinfection. The comments above are recommending 2 minutes. Please clarify the correct in salon use for disinfecting against Covid.
Hi Toni, a 3 minute contact time is only necessary to kill tuberculosis according to our wipes label.
Is there a product you recommend for cleaning the inside of a clothing washer? Looking to throughly disinfect the washer we use for cleaning salon towels and such.
BARBICIDE® Wipes or Spray could both work! Remember, disinfection is intended for hard, non-porous surfaces and wipes have a 2 minute contact time. The spray has a 10 minute contact time.
Is barbicide safe on leather
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous surfaces like metal, glass or plastic.
I purchased Barbicide (hospital)
as a disinfectant because that’s all I could find on amazon.
Is this your product as well?
We do not sell direct to Amazon and we do not have any authorized sellers.
Just curious if I bought wipes from some random place is the container sealed ? How would I know it’s the real deal?
Kim – that’s a great question. Our wipes do come sealed.
We have staff using Barbicide every place in the salon without researching if it will damage soft materials. We are confused by the previous response your posted regarding use on leather. The question that does not get answered clearly is, will your products destroy or damage leather or fabrics? We get it that they are soft materials that can not be disinfected only cleaned. We know we have staff using Barbicide and Clippercide in the salon as a cleaner attempting to sanitize and wiping down expensive leather and pleather styling chairs between guests. Using Barbicide or Clippercide as a furniture cleaner, will we eventually damage our salon furniture?
If a piece of furniture is cleaned multiple times in the day is it possible to build up residue that can cause pooling effect? For example we clean a chair multiple times with Barbicide and a guests sits in the chair can the product leach through the chair fabric and onto their clothing and irritate their skin?
Should we or should we not be wiping down our salon furniture with Barbicide or Clippercide at all?
There, I finally asked, please help our staff get the correct answers. Thanks!
Does this product leave spots or stains if used as a spray disinfectant and left to dry, not wiped up? Would the ratios be the same if used in a fogger? Thank!
It may depending on the surface. Mixing ratios will be the same if using a fogger. Please allow proper ventilation and always wear a mask.
Can I dilute and use for dishwashing?
BARBICIDE® is intended for disinfection of hard non-porous surfaces like metal, plastic or glass.
Intriguing post. I Have Been pondering about this issue, so a debt of
gratitude is in order for posting. Cool post.
It ‘s extremely exceptionally decent and Useful post.
Thanks!

Hello,
My barber keeps the combs submerged in Barbicide.
I work in a hospital. I clean my hands, my hair, my mouth. I clean My phone.
But my glasses are hard to clean because i have to take them off.
Would you think it would be okay to submerge my glasses into a Barbicide for 10 min to disinfect them.
Thank you.
Thanks for your question! It would depend on the material of your glasses, but most likely yes. BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous items or surfaces such as metal, glass or plastic.
I see that lot of responses state that Barbecide is safe for hard non porous surfaces. My follow up questions are 1) if I use it on a hard surface, can I prepare food on it after? 2) why is it NOT meant for non hard or porous surfaces – e.g. it won’t disinfect or does it becomes dangerous or some other reason? Thank you.
Yes, you may – and BARBICIDE® is not meant for porous surfaces because porous surfaces cannot be disinfected. Only hard, non-porous surfaces can be disinfected.
on Barbicide bottle there are “Pesticide Disposal” instructions. Does Barbicide contains pesticides?
All disinfectants registered with the EPA are technically pesticides designed to kill pathogens.
Which Barbacide products specifically were cleared by FDA for human Coronovirus? Is it just the concentrate? How about the spray and wipes. Thank you
Can Clipperside be used on furniture, like a couch, or clothing, or in the air to kill the virus?
Clippercide is a clipper-blade disinfectant. Please adhere to the label for proper usage.
Very nice article, exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you for reading!
3 questions:
1. Does the 1:16 ration work in any volume or does it have to be 1/4 cup to 4 cups? In other words could I use just 1/8 cup to 2 cups of water?
2. Is it more effective to spray the concentrated liquid (not mixing with any water or even less water) or is the water mixed in to ensure it remains wet?
3. Does the prepared solution expire or evaporate after certain number of hours? In other words, do I have to re-do a solution every so often?
Yes, you may use it in any volume as long as you are converting it properly. Not adhering to proper mixing ratio can put you at risk of not being effective against the pathogens of concern. BARBICIDE® solution should be changed daily, or when contaminated or improperly diluted. Unless you are using the spray – BARBICIDE® Spray does not need to be changed daily because you are not sticking anything into the solution. Unprepared BARBICIDE® does not expire.
I have a question, can Barbicide be used on a car dash? I understand you have to prepare a solution in which you will submerge your barber tools and then rinse. However I don’t know if you could clean a car´s non-porous surfaces and not rinse the product.
Yes, BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect any hard, non-porous item or surface.
Can clippcide be use as Lysol spray to disinfect door knobs and hard like countertops and tables?
Clippercide is a clipper-blade disinfectant. Please adhere to the label for proper usage.
I like it when folks get together and share opinions. Great site, stick with it!
Way to go BARBICIDE. I just took the certification and passed. This companys product can be a great instrument to disinfect the country. We need to smell the cleanliness in the air. BARBICIDE is the answer. Lets get those stickers ASAP and let the citizens know we can win if your BARBICIDE clean. Thanks for being very respondent to the concerns from the users.
Thank you for your support!
Is Barbicide approved to be used in a kitchen to sanitize knives? (NSF)
Thanks
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces like glass, metal or plastic. Please adhere to the 10 minute contact time and proper mixing ratio on the label.
I know Barbicide is for solid surfaces. But can you spray the recommended solution on tennis shoes out side and let dry out side and not damage the shoes? Cannot buy lysol anywhere.
Thank you, Julie
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces like glass, metal or plastic. The bottom of your shoe is most likely porous and porous items and surfaces cannot be disinfected, only cleaned.
Thanks so much for the ratio to make a spray and for making my own wipes. I have a nail salon in Mathews, VA and I hope to open back up soon. ?????? Stay safe!!!!!!
You are very welcome! Thanks for reading!
Hello I do Euber eats and I have a spray bottle in my car. But I use gloves also. So when I come in contact with bags , I spray my gloves with herbicide. Will yhay kill the virus on my gloves?
BARBICIDE® can be used to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces like glass, metal or plastic. Porous items like gloves cannot be disinfected and will need to be discarded after use.
I have the Barbicide Disinfecting Towelettes Wipes. Can this be used to disinfect for the Coronavirus? Thank you.
Will I be able to use this in a ULV fogger?
Please follow proper mixing ratios, allow proper ventilation and always wear a mask when doing so.
If I’m using this in my spa, I wash my tools and then submerge them. Do I have to rinse them after that or just dry them? And I use metal bowls, do I wash, then spray for the 10 mins, then wash those off too? Because bowls can’t really be submerged.
You can allow your tools and surfaces to air dry. You do not need to rinse.
Is there an effect on newly pregnant moms or unborne children from hand contact or breathing barbicide? should moms wear gloves and masks when using barbicide to disenfect.
Unless otherwise stated EPA regulated products are safe for all populations as long as label instructions are followed.
I have the Barbicide Disinfecting Towelettes Wipes. Can they be used to disinfect for the Coronavirus? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thank you so much.
First of all, THANK YOU for taking the time to answer all the questions! It is extremely helpful and we are so appreciative of your answers. I am wondering specifically about using the mixed solution on countertops that may be in contact or close contact with young kids and food. If i spray it and just wripe it off after 10 minute, is it safe without having to to wipe it down again with water to get rid of any trace of Barbicide chemicals? I have young kids and I am worried that they might touch the counter with their food, hands, etc.
Thank you Jenny for your feedback, glad we can help! For this scenario, we would recommend rinsing/wiping the surface after the full contact time is up.
Hi,
We purchased barbicide and planning to use as a disinfecting chemical using a cold fogger. Please advice is barbicide is safe and applicable to use in ULV cold fogger? Most apprecaite to hear from you soon.
Thanks a lot.
Yes, you can. But, please follow proper mixing ratios, allow proper ventilation and always wear a mask when doing so.
Hello
I am a mobile Hairdresser can i use barbicide spray to clean my scissors brushes combs rollers extra.Do I need to rinse it off and does it need changed daily or can you use it until the bottle is empty.
BARBICIDE in a sprayer, is good until gone!
I have the normal barbicide solution, can this be used to disinfect my spa/pedicure bowls or do I need to buy spacide?
Also are the barbicide wipes quicker to disinfect surfaces than the solution?
Thanks.
Yes! BARBICIDE can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous items and surfaces such as glass, metal or plastic. BARBICIDE Wipes have a 2 minute contact time, compared to BARBICIDE Concentrate which has a 10 minute contact time.
Do I have to rinse the plastic containers and implements after soaking in the solution or can I let them air dry? And do I have to rinse the implements and containers after I use clippercide or can I let that air dry? I have plastic bottles that I am disinfecting that will be used to store hand soap in after, so do I have to rinse the clippercide or the barbicide off of them or can they be air dried then used? Thank you!
Hi Catherine – you can allow the implements to air dry.
Can barbacide be used on chairs
BARBICIDE can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous surfaces and items. It will depend on the material of your chair!
Can someone help locate or copy the covid certificate exam?
Please check your email for a copy of your certificate!
What will occur if hair and product is left on tools before placing them in the barbicide solution?
Items and surfaces should be cleaned prior to disinfection to remove all visible debris in order to kill all pathogens of concern listed on our label.
We are patiently waiting for an answer, we are concerned about using Barbicide or Clippercide on our furniture. Please clearly answer this question so we can clear up confusion regarding leather furniture in our salon and sanitation protocols. Will Barbicide or Clippercide damage our leather furniture in our salon with multiple daily use applications? Should we be using Barbicide or Clippercide on our salon furniture at all? All responses on this page do not directly take on this question, clouding a clear answer. We would appreciate your response to clearing up a debate among staff at our salon regarding your products use on salon furniture between individual guest visits. Thank you – Jae
Will the Barbicide liquid in a spray bottle disinfect a leather couch? Will it kill germs, viruses, or bacteria in a leather couch?
BARBICIDE can be used to disinfect all hard, non-porous surfaces and items such as glass, metal or plastic. Leather is porous and cannot be disinfected. We recommend barrier methods on chairs such as disposable paper drapes or towels that can be laundered after each client.
I understand the Barbicide concentrate does not expire. How long does the solution stay effective for disinfecting surfaces once mixed/diluted properly and stored in a clean spray bottle? I am trying to figure out how often I would need to mix a new batch. Thank you.
The solution will be effective until the spray bottle runs out because you are not sticking items into the bottle and you are not exposing the solution to air. Hope this helps!
Can I mix 1 oz. of barbicide to 16oz water if that’s the o my spray bottle size I have?
Yes! BARBICIDE is still effective when cutting the mixing ratio in half.
Wow! Barbicide Team, you are amazing! Thank you for this Q&A space. I am not a hair dresser or a business owner; my daughter sent me a gallon of Barbicide, reminding me that I used it in Beauty School. My son-in-law felt it might be too much for home use and babies so I decided to research a bit. This has been a wealth of information and to the point of making sure that one follows [recommended instructions] in this and every product.
I read from top to bottom as I felt I was really in a classroom and guess what, the question about baby, children, and food even came at the very end! So useful. The way and the calm with which the Team answers questions, even duplicated ones makes every single questioner feel they mattered. Great job!
Thank you for the feedback, Mary!
Hello I have a 17 yr old new sealed bottle of barbicide. I cannot see an expiration date. Is it any good?
BARBICIDE does not expire!
Barbicide wipes unopened with an expiration of 2018, are they still viable?
Yes you may use them!
